History

The construction of the Gateway of India took place between 1911 and 1924. Subsequently, it was officially inaugurated on December 4, 1924. The primary purpose behind its creation was to commemorate the visit of King George V and Queen Mary to India in 1911. Over time, the Gateway of India also played a significant historical role, serving as a major port of entry for travelers and merchants visiting the country.
